Let's make this time of year meaningful.

The festive season approaches, often referred to as the holiday season or even the silly season.

The National Council of SPCA’s (NSPCA) seasonal appeal in 2009 goes beyond asking for support for animals: - it focuses on the “forgotten” animals especially at this time of the year.

We are thinking of turkeys, chickens - animals commonly referred to as “food” animals or “production” animals. Many end up on the table, male newborn chicks continue to be macerated (ground up alive) because they cannot lay eggs, animals remain in laboratory cages, animals are forced to perform or be exhibited or used in sports. Donkeys continue to work and pull heavy loads with no days off over this “holiday” period.

The NSPCA works with and protects them all. These are the forgotten animals.

We do not forget them.

Please show that you too care by donating to the NSPCA. If every individual donated the amount of money equivalent to one Christmas gift, what a difference that would make. What about companies donating a set amount per client to the NSPCA instead of giving gifts which are often unused and pushed aside.

Let’s make this time of year meaningful and let South Africa show that animals are not forgotten – and we mean ALL animals.

Instead of saying, “Oh shame, animals do suffer at this time of the year” why not be proud and say, “THIS is what I did to help and make a difference.”

To make donations even easier – get your mouse to help. Please go to www.nspca.co.za where you can find the various options to donate to the NSPCA plus contact details if more information is required.
