| 2006 Lipton Challenge Cup |
(2006-08-11) The Lipton Cup is South Africa’s Premier Sailing event.
This prestigious Yacht Racing event was born in 1911 when the Point Yacht Club in Durban took up Sir Thomas Lipton's challenge and beat the Table Bay Yacht Club (now Royal Cape Yacht Club) to win the inaugural event.
Since then, the contest has evolved over all the decades to become one of the most glamorous in the world of sailing. The race takes place from 27 August through until 1 September at the Royal Cape Yacht Club.
On Saturday 26 August, a promotion day and the opening ceremony will be held at the V&A Waterfront. There will be Lipton promotions, apperances by crew members from Team Shoholoza, fun interactive workshops presented by the NSRI and a Celebrity Sailing Challenge! A special feature is the relaunch of the Voortrekker which is being used to train a development team in tandem with South Africa’s Americas Cup entry “ Team Shosholoza”
